"I am the first born son in my family and have 5 siblings. Finance has been the major problem in our family. We have a small piece of land that doesn’t produce enough for food and extra income. My parents are both jobless. I lived at my grandmothers place till I finished high-school. I graduated in 2013 and got grade B. Actually a very good mark that earned me a university entrance, but I got a course I didn’t want to do with no future perspective. Due to corruption in selection procedures at the university my good marks and subjects weren’t even considered. I ever wanted to do nursing but had no funds to pay after my first application as self-sponsored student. I have been doing casual work at farmers land to earn some living and to support my parents to pay high school fees for my brother and sisters, It could never be enough to pay my own fees in college. We as a family have been surviving through courtesy of church fund raising, and other well-wishers. However there are others too in the village who need to be considered and we had been receiving some help for many years already. The problem too is that 4 of us are in crucial level of learning so that lots of funds are needed to pay tuition fees. The 3 of us are now stuck with our further education. At 26 I decided to apply again so that I can start my training and to try to enlarge my future chances in life. When I got admission, Covid 19 broke out and even the small fund raisings weren’t possible anymore and everybody had to fight to get all ends meet financially. My Aunt had heard of a well known organisation in Moi’s Bridge which has been assisting students from poor families as we. We heard students have been graduating and making the impossible possible. That’s how we came in contact with the committee members in Moi’s Bridge and we really hope our plea for help will be honoured so that our family too can be transformed. "

Enock thuis bij de bonenoogst
Ambitie/droom:
I am optimistic that one day I will be one of the best medical nursing practioners in my village. I would like to pursue Kenya registered Nursing training in Eldoret where I have been admitted. We live in a rural hilly part where most facilities are not available. There’s enough to be done here medically and we have seen the challenges Covid brought in our health care system and many times there is shortage of staff. I hope to be part of them later and participate in improvement and giving services to the people. I belief this course is the one that can bring change in my personal life. I have very good academic performance and its really a pity that these talents have been lying years unexploited. "

Augustus 2021
Enock doet goed zijn best. Zijn opleiding wisselt af van praktijk en theorie-lessen en hij vind het erg leuk en leerzaam. Hij heeft in juli corona gehad, maar gelukkig was hij niet erg ziek geweest en hij is nu goed hersteld. Het semester was druk met de diverse vakken en aansluitend een examen in begin augustus.

Enock heeft het eerste jaar afgerond voor de Kerst. De laatste maanden liep hij stage op verschillende afdeling van Het Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. Hij heeft op de medical ward stage gelopen, op de hart bewaking, oncologie en op de emergency unit. Vooral aan de nachtdiensten moest hij even wennen. Dit zijn in Kenia lange diensten van 8 uur ‘s avonds tot de volgende ochtend 8 uur. Studenten worden nog overal ingezet en moeten van alles afwerken. Hij doet deze opleiding met veel plezier en kijkt er naar uit om in januari zijn tweede jaar te beginnen.

We hebben Enock even ontmoet in Eldoret op onze weg naar Moi’s Bridge. Het was een waardevolle ontmoeting met een talent dat we alleen op papier kennen net als we de meeste talenten voor het eerst ontmoetten. Hij was enthousiast en blij ons te ontmoeten. Met veel waardering sprak hij over zijn dankbaarheid voor de kansen die hij gekregen heeft. Als eerst geborene is hij zeker een sterke man die de verantwoordelijkheid van thuis nu al draagt en dat is vooral te zien aan hoe hij voor zijn zus zorgde die ernstig ziek werd en op intensive care belandde. Hij handelde als professional en als een zeer zorgzaam broer, terwijl hij ook op zijn studie goed functioneerde en communiceerde.

Maart 2023
Met Enock gaat alles naar wens. Hij is bezig met het afronden van allerlei toetsen en examens zodat hij aan het eind van het jaar kan afstuderen. Zijn smartphone is in februari kapotgegaan dus contact gaat moeizaam, af en toe met een telefoon van vrienden. Vandaar dit keer ook geen nieuwe foto’s.

November 2023
Enock heeft zijn eindexamen dit jaar niet kunnen afronden en dus wordt dat midden volgend jaar. Hij haalde het onderdeel verloskunde en gynaecologie niet, daarom kon hij niet verder met de rest van het examen. Telefonisch contact verloopt moeizaam ivm smartphone problemen.
